ICFGM held it’s third annual free summer event at the Children’s Museum of Memphis (CMOM) on Saturday, July 30, 2016. This was the last time we could host the free event based on the terms we agreed to during our funding of CMOM’s ‘Amazing Airway’ exhibit. The event reflects our thanks to the greater Indian community for helping fund the project. When you visit CMOM with friends and relatives, do not forget to visit this exhibit (one of the more popular exhibits at the museum) that you helped fund. The exhibit teaches kids about physics – air flow, force, pressure, velocity and shortest paths. The event was held during the evening hours once the museum was closed to regular patrons.
This year we had close to 200 people signing up to attend the event. The added allure of a cool water splash park during a blustery summer was hard to resist. As part of our mission to improve lives, besides an open invitation to the Indian community, we also extended it to kids from the Neighborhood Christian Center (NCC). An organization that is driven by similar values as ICFGM and whom we have worked with in the past. There were about 50 attendees from NCC. And they left with beaming smiles when it was all over.
To make this event more meaningful, we requested that attendees bring some school supplies to donate to local school supplies drives. It was gratifying to see kids walk in with bags of supplies in their hands. Some who couldn’t pickup supplies donated cash that was used to buy supplies. These supplies were then given to Channel 24’s ‘Stuff The Bus’ school supplies drive. A big thanks to all of you who donated generously.
It was an evening of fun, sharing and learning. Not to mention the piping hot Pizzas and decadent brownies! It was community support and giving in action. Special thanks to volunteers from the community who helped us with the event. A few were spotted in their Royal Blue “Indians for a Better Memphis’ t-shirts. Thanks to all who came by, shared your thoughts and ideas with us and pledged to continue working with ICFGM in making the greater community a better place to live. Finally, thanks to the folks at CMOM who have always worked enthusiastically with us in making this event happen. This couldn’t have been pulled off without your support.
